Quick answer
A safe zone is the part of a vertical video the app’s own interface does not cover. On a 1080 × 1920 frame, keep text and logos about 240 px from the top, 660 px from the bottom and 120 px from each side on TikTok (and clear of the action buttons on the lower right), and about 288 px from the top, 672 px from the bottom, 48 px from the left and 192 px from the right on YouTube Shorts.

How to use it

  1. 1
    Choose the platform

TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or Both to see the area that is safe on each.

  2. 2
    Add a frame

Choose or drag in an image or video. It is drawn in your browser on a 1080 × 1920 frame; nothing is uploaded.

  3. 3
    Move anything in the shading

Text, faces or logos inside the shaded areas can be hidden by buttons, captions or the account name. Download the overlay to share it.

Where do TikTok and Shorts cover your video?

On TikTok, the account name, caption and sound label sit across the bottom left, and the like, comment, share and profile buttons run down the right edge. That is why the bottom and right margins are large, with an extra notch on the lower right.

YouTube Shorts puts its title, channel and subscribe button along the bottom and its action buttons on the right, so the right margin is wider than the left.

Are these margins official?

No. Neither TikTok nor YouTube publishes safe zones for organic posts. These margins are measured from the platforms’ published ad safe-zone templates, which are made for ads; organic posts are laid out similarly. Interfaces vary by device and change with app updates, so preview before posting.

FAQ

Is my image or video uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read by your browser and drawn on this page. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.

Do hashtags count toward the caption limit?

Yes. Hashtags and mentions are part of the caption text, so they use up the same limit. The counter includes them.

My video is not 9:16. What happens?

The tool measures a 1080 × 1920 (9:16) frame. A different shape is fitted inside it without cropping, so you will see bars.

Does AutoGenShorts keep captions inside the safe zone?

Yes. AutoGenShorts burns captions in, timed to the narration, positioned for vertical video, so they are not hidden by the app interface.
